Bible Bites - Saving Faith - John 2:18-24

Do I have saving faith? This is one of the most important questions we could ever ask ourselves!

Many have believed an insidious lie that says all we need to do is believe that Jesus is the Son of God and we’ll be saved. We can’t stop there. Even demons have faith like this and they are not saved!

We’ve got to beware of “Demon Faith”!

Demons believe in the reality of God. Demons believe in the Deity of God. Demons believe in the Supreme Power of Christ over their destiny. Demons believe in Hell and the horrors of eternal punishment. Demons believe in the submission to God’s Word.

If we believe in these things, but continue to live for ourselves according to our own desires, we are not saved. That should be a frightening thought!

John 2:18-24 shows us what true, saving faith is.
18But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

True saving faith comes from God’s grace at work in our heart, it is a faith that is repentant and results in a changed life. True saving faith produces good works for the Lord.

Dr. John Barnett has some powerful, Biblical teaching on this.
