Bible Bites - Psalm 37:11-12

Psalm 37:11-12
But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace. The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes his teeth at him,

If you look around the world today, it seems that there are threats of violence, anger, and fighting in so many places around the world. In the U.S., we see before our eyes how the wicked are incensed against the meek and righteous and how they plot and scheme, hurling lies, insults and grinding their teeth against the saints!

It’s sad to see, but shouldn’t surprise us at all. The Bible tells us in many places that this is the way the world works. Though God is in control, we know that Satan has been called the ruler and god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4, John 12:31, Ephesians 2:2 and several other places).
He stirs up the world against the Saints (that is the Believers).

But, we do not need to live in fear or act as though we’ve been abandoned.  Psalm 46:1 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Romans 8:38 tells us that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. And we know, as it says in Psalm 37:11 that the meek will inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.

The word here used for peace is the Hebrew word, shalom. Shalom also carries the connotation of being complete. So, this peace that the meek will inherit and dwell in is a complete peace!
So, let us take courage and comfort in the Word of God, not being shaken by what we see or hear. We have the love, grace, and complete peace as promised by God. We know how this story ends. Jesus has won!

Let’s pray.

Lord, though the wicked may surround us and plot against us, help us to stand secure in your love and promises. Pour out your peace, your shalom peace upon us and help us to hold on to this precious gift. We thank you that not a single Word you’ve spoken or written will return to you without being accomplished. We praise you and look forward to your promises being fulfilled. You are our hope, our help and our shield. In you our hearts rejoice for we trust in your holy name. Let your unfailing love surround us, Lord, for our hope is in you alone. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray and give you thanks. Amen!
