Bible Bites - Remember God's Promises
The rainbow has come to mean many different things for many different people over the years, but for the Christian the rainbow has a very special meaning. For us, the rainbow is a gift from God recalling His promises!
When God made His covenant with all of creation on earth, He spoke these words, “Behold, I establish with you and your offspring after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said, “This is a sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” – Genesis 9:8-16
The rainbow is a sign of the promise God has made between Himself and all of the earth for all generations. It has also become a symbol of God’s promises to the Christian.
One of my favorite promises God has given us is in Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
This promise has been such a source of strength and comfort for me. It reminds me that whatever is going on around me or happening in my life, I know that God is working it into good for all those who love Him and are in His will!
So, after the rain when we look up and see that beautiful rainbow, let us also remember God’s promises and give Him thanks.
Let's Pray:
Holy Heavenly Lord God Almighty, we thank You for your promises and the beautiful blessing of the rainbow as a symbol of your covenant with the whole earth. We pray that whenever we see a rainbow in the sky or even an image of one, we would remember your promises and your faithfulness and be comforted and strengthened. In Jesus' most wonderful name we pray. Amen!
