There is no salvation without the Savior.
In Acts 4:12, referring to Jesus, we read, "And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."
It's clear that Jesus is the only way to salvation. But there is another dimension to this scripture that few acknowledge.
In modern society, we are quick to say a "sinner's prayer" and call it a day, continuing to live our old lives, believing that we've done what we need to be saved.
One of the biggest lies told in the church is that all you need to do to be saved is to believe that Jesus is Lord and the Son of God. But this isn't quite true. Satan and the fallen angels know full well that Jesus is the Son of God, that He is the promised Messiah, that He is the Savior. Satan and his angels, as we know are doomed to the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:10).
We believe the lie that all we have to do is say a few words and we're saved so readily because our fleshly nature wants salvation without the Savior. We want Christ to commit to us without us committing to Him! The truth is, without surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we have no salvation.
Matthew 7:21 makes it abundantly clear that obedience to God is the key to salvation. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven, On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'
It's a sobering truth. We cannot claim Jesus as our Lord and go our own way. If we do, we have fooled ourselves.
There is no salvation without the Savior.
