Pray for Peace!

Pray for Peace!

I will always love and stand with Israel and her people.

Israel is a nation of people born from the descendants of Abraham. In Genesis 12, God called Abraham (then Abram) to leave his home and country and go to a new land. God promised him that he’d be made into a great nation, that he would be blessed. Abraham faithfully left home and country to follow the Lord’s command.

Later God again came to Abraham and made a covenant with him that he would be given a son and that his offspring will be as numerous as the stars in the sky. Abraham believed the Lord, and it was counted it to him as righteousness.

And so it came to pass that Israel became a great nation, and despite all attempts throughout history to destroy the nation, Israel stands.

God also spoke this promise to Abraham, “I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families on earth shall be blessed. In this promise, we have a blessing or a curse put in front of us. A curse is harm or punishment. So, here God is telling us that how we treat Israel, directly affects us, bringing either blessing or punishment.

In the New Testament, Paul shows us another way in which we have a direct connection to the people of Israel. In Romans 11:11-31 he goes into great detail on how we have been grafted into Israel, and how through Israel, reconciliation has come to the world.

Christians sometimes forget that our Lord and Savior was a Jew. Many also forget or are unaware that with the exception of Luke, all of the New Testament writers were Jewish. The Christian connection to the people and nation of Israel is unmistakable and inseparable.

Though we may not necessarily agree with every action or policy of Israel as a nation or as a people,
we ought to always seek Israel’s good and pray for their peace and security. We read in Psalm 122:6-9 – Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” For my brothers and companions’ sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.
