Bible Bites - Psalm 37:1-2
Psalm 37:1-2

Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who are doing wrong; for like grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.

With the state of the world as it is today, it seems more challenging than ever to not fret about what we see going on all around us and maybe even in our own lives! Evil seems to be flourishing everywhere!

But God tells us not to fret, not to worry or be anxious about what we see and hear around us. We are to keep our eyes fixed firmly upon Jesus, trusting in our God and His plans.
Though we live in a fallen world, we serve and are loved by a faithful God who promises to never leave or forsake us, one who is a very present help in danger.

He also promises us in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

Looking through history, we see this over and over and over again.
We can see it in the story of Joseph in the book of Genesis. What his brother’s meant harm, God turned into good.
We can see it when God parted the water and led His people through while wiping out Pharaoh’s army.
We see it as Peter walked with faith on the water to meet Jesus, but sank when he looked fearfully at the storm and waves.
We see it in ancient Roman days when Christians were rounded up and killed for sport and entertainment, but the faith on display of those facing destruction was so impressive and compelling that it would eventually turn the tide and Christianity would spread throughout the Roman Empire and the world.
We have seen this as Hitler tried to wipe out the Jews, but God turned it around to bring His people back once again dwell in the Promised Land!
And most importantly, we’ve seen it on the Cross when Satan thought he scored a major victory in killing the Son of God, but it turned out to be his utter defeat!

God always turns the evil of the world on its head and uses it to accomplish His good!
So, let’s not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those doing wrong. God is with us and working all things for good!

Lord we pray that you help us to keep our eyes on Jesus and not let the evil of the world cause us to fret or be anxious. Help us to remain in you and be filled with your complete peace that passes all understanding, confident that you are sovereign above all and firmly in control. Help us to always pray and be confident that your will be done in our lives, and on earth just as it is in heaven. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen
