He is Risen!

He is Risen!

He Is Risen!

Imagine being a follower of Jesus at the crucifixion. There was Jesus, who you believed to be the Messiah, the Son of God, worker of miracles, prophet, and righteous man, the one in whom you placed all your hopes in, dying a brutal and humiliating death on the cross! A type of death reserved for the worst criminals.

Imagine the sadness, confusion and fear they must have felt! “For as yet, they did not understand the Scripture, that He must rise from the dead. (John 20:9) They didn’t understand what God had written in Psalm 16:10, “For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.”

Friday and Saturday had to have seemed like the worst days of their lives! But they had no idea that they were about to walk into the best day of their lives on Sunday!

On Sunday morning, though the followers of Christ were shaken, they held tightly onto their love for Jesus. The women were the first to seek Jesus at the tomb. There, they met angels who asked them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” before continuing on to say, “He is not here, but has risen.”

Finally, Jesus words and the Scriptures clicked! Can you imagine the elation at realizing the one you had been mourning is alive?! Defeat became victory! Their mourning was turned into dancing and they were filled with joy! Their hope was renewed! That evening Jesus came to His disciples and stood among them. The reports were true, He is Risen! What an incredible and joyous day that must have been!

Though, we didn’t witness Jesus at the resurrection, Jesus did call us blessed. “Have you believed because you have seen me? "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” -John 20:28-29

For us who believe and follow Jesus, Resurrection Sunday is the greatest event in history! The salvation promised was fulfilled in Christ! Jesus took the punishment for our sin upon Himself. He paid the price and redeemed us! With His resurrection, He defeated death and through His resurrection we have everlasting life! Glory and praise be to God in the highest!
